Eleven exhibition
Exhibition design and curation
Shoreditch, London, 2001
‘Eleven’ was an exhibition of eleven designers and artists, conceived, curated, designed, and built by Turner Castle as a platform to celebrate the talent and resourcefulness of a new generation of designers.
A vacant warehouse in Shoreditch was temporarily transformed into a bustling ‘show and tell’ space, branded with a 3m high figure ‘11’. The vacant industrial space was reconfigured with softened lighting, site-specific installations and a series of garden sheds, which provided more intimate display spaces.
As an intervention the exhibition acted as a prompt for occupation to flourish.
Responding to the brief to make an installation on the theme of work, Turner Castle made a three dimensional desk which transformed into a house - a playful commentary on the blandness of corporate life - which provided a platform from which to view the rest of the exhibition.
