The conversion of a retail space on the Kings Road into a 2000 sqft 2-storey gallery space, has provided an elegant second gallery space and central London location for the Battersea based Northcote Gallery.

The site as found was a crumbling Victorian shell, offering little natural light. To encourage flow through the space, the existing steep, rambling stairs were replaced with a new, spiralling staircase to the rear. A large new glazed opening at first floor level, illuminates the upper gallery and a ‘bridge’ links the gallery space to a new decked terrace.

The removal of skirting boards and combination of white plaster walls, polished meranti and larch wood floors provide an elegant sculptural setting, which compliments the contemporary collection of works on display. A discrete fold away kitchenette at lower ground level is constructed from black phenolic plywood.
